Talk:Installation of Squidwall

Issue 1
I can't seem to figure out how one actually gets to the web interface. It seems like it may actually be init.php, but there are also references to "inet" which seems to be a hard link to "/home/httpd/html/inet" - which doesn't exist on SLES9 and I can't seem to find any information on.
The only "inet" I can find is the directory "/dev/inet".
Resolved: Found in version 0.4a of the squidwall package.
Was my fault, a new version of the webinterface is available... it includes now the /inet/ - which is just moved into the Webroot of the Apache during installation.
Issue 2
Can anyone give an example of how the filter mechanisms are enabled/disabled?
I got a hint from a file in one of the previous versions that the options actually go into the host/user file?
Yes, hehe :) see Issue 4
Issue 3
squidwall.sh refers to "deny.php" which doesn't exist.
Resolved: Found deny.php in v0.4a of the squidwall package.
is also fixed, /inet/ is @ webinterface again :)
Issue 4
Why is there a /etc/squidwall/users directory as well as a /etc/squidwall/webinterface/users directory.
It appears that squidwall users the first while the web interface uses the second?
That is correct.
/etc/squidwall/users is for the real squidwall redirector - contains the '!' and the real ACL's /etc/squidwall/webinterface/users - contains the files, which are read by the webinterface, for defining the files @ /etc/squidwall/users - same applies for */hosts/

Discussion 1 - web interface function seperation
PreyCor 11:28, 6 July 2006 (GMT+2) It seems to me that the packaging is starting to become confusing for the user of squidwall. I'd like to suggest that the core functionality (redirector & error pages) remain within the main package while the "sample" administration interface remains in a seperate package.
This would make it clear what is required, and what is optionally used. Right now someone has to download the "webinterface" package just to get the error pages required by the redirector.
Yes. You're right. The deny.php pages should be included into the squidwall package. Version 0.5 will do it so. --milky 10:33, 10 July 2006 (CEST)
Discussion 2 - removed Suse
I think your setup instructions can be used on all plattforms ... so I remvoed the extra naming of Suse... is this okay?
